Chandigarh: The probe into the allegations of sexual harassment of women cops by former Jind SP seems to have hit a roadblock, with a YouTuber whose device and equipment were allegedly used to make a grievance letter viral remaining elusive.
A three-member team of senior cops headed by ADGP (crime) Mamta Singh is heading the probe. Two other probes, including by another SIT of Hisar against YouTuber Sunil Kapoor and one by Haryana State Commission for Women headed by chairperson Renu Bhatia, are under way.
“Kapoor is the most important link to the probe. We have tried our best to reach out to him, leaving messages for his family members too, but he continues to be elusive,’’ said a senior official of Haryana Police. “We have recorded statement of some women cops and the officer. But the probe cannot proceed until Kapoor shares more information,” the cops added.
On Oct 28, a few women cops deployed in Jind district had sent a letter to the CM window and other places alleging sexual harassment by the then Jind SP, Sumit Kumar. They had also accused a women DSP and woman inspector of abetting Kumar.
Initially, police had ordered a probe by SP Astha Modi. As the issue became a major controversy, the probe was handed over to three-member team of IPS officers, SP Modi, DIG Sangeeta Kalia and ADGP Mamta Singh.
Meanwhile, a FIR was registered against Kapoor after it was found that the letters sent to CM window and other places was made viral from the equipment registered in his name.
The Haryana State Women Commission too had recorded the statements of Kumar and some of the women cops. Later, Kumar and the women DSP and inspector were shifted to ensure a fair probe.
